Go-Green: Iyutembom Jones Yondo’s Smart Solution for Cleaner Cities

A Smart Answer to Waste Challenges

In Bamenda, where overflowing waste bins choke streets and pollute communities, Iyutembom Jones Yondo is changing the game with Go-Green, a smart waste management solution. His 3-in-1 smart bin, equipped with touch-free sensors to sort recyclables, organics, and electronics, is a finalist for SDG Innovate Cameroon 2025. Jones’s journey shows how resilience can tackle environmental crises. Go-Green aligns with SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), making cities cleaner and creating jobs. Come celebrate Jones’s vision at the Resilience Recognition & Awards on August 23, 2025, at Hotel Franco in Yaoundé. Nominate a changemaker by August 17, 2025 and RSVP to honor innovators like him.

 Turning Vision into Reality

Jones’s mission with Go-Green started with a dream to make waste management smarter in Cameroon, where poor systems lead to pollution and health risks. Facing scarce funding and limited tech infrastructure, he built a smart bin with digital dashboards and green points redeemable via mobile money, encouraging sustainable habits. Partnering with a dedicated team, Jones pushed past doubts about high-tech solutions in resource-scarce settings, earning Go-Green a spot at SDG Innovate Cameroon 2025.

Cleaning Cities, Creating Jobs

Go-Green is a lifeline for urban areas. Its smart bins sort waste efficiently, reducing contamination and boosting recycling. Households and collectors use dashboards to track progress, while green points reward eco-friendly behavior. This supports SDG 11’s goal of sustainable cities and SDG 12’s focus on responsible consumption, cutting waste and emissions. By involving local youth as collectors, Go-Green creates jobs, fostering economic growth and community pride.

Overcoming Tech and Funding Hurdles

Jones’s grit shines in tackling technical barriers. With little access to advanced tech, he sourced affordable sensors and trained locals to maintain the bins. Limited funds meant relying on small grants and community support, but Jones turned these challenges into strengths, building a scalable system. His hustle and innovation reflect the spirit celebrated at SDG Innovate Cameroon 2025.

A Ripple Effect for Cleaner Communities

Go-Green’s impact is growing. It cleans up Bamenda’s streets, empowers recyclers, and inspires sustainable habits. Jones’s vision to expand across Cameroon, adding features like AI cameras and weight sensors, could transform urban waste systems. By making cities safer and greener, Go-Green sets a model for Africa, proving local solutions can have global reach.
